Are there any good Linux-compatible streaming video capture/conversion programs?

Hi, I’m brand new to Linux after 12 years on Microsoft. I like it a lot so far, but still have a lot to learn and figure out. My question is about streaming video capture and conversion programs and whether anyone can steer me toward any decent Linux-based tools. When I was using windows I bought a very good program from NCH called Replay Media Catcher that allowed me to capture streaming video in several formats, even live streaming video, and had a built-in conversion tool that let me convert from flv to MPG4. Can anyone point me toward a Linux-based tool like that, or if such a thing even exists? Thanks, everybody.
