Are there any exceptions to the public building requirement?

Yes. If there are no public buildings available within the district, then the charter can remain in a privately owned building under two conditions: (1) the building’s owner is willing to maintain the building according to E (educational adequacy) standards at no cost to the district or school; or (2) the building is owned by a non-profit that is also willing to maintain the building to standards at no additional cost to the district or charter.
