Are there any disaster recovery lessons that can be learned from current apocalypse-related films?
Walton McCarthy, CEO of Radius Engineering, thinks so… This month brings the release of two films that portend the end of the world through disaster scenarios. The first, 2012 from Sony Pictures, vividly paints the actual events that could take place leading up to Dec. 12, 2012, believed by many to be the end of the Ancient Mayan calendar, and therefore, the end of the world. The second, The Road from Dimension Films, based on the novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy, tells of a post-apocalyptic journey by a father and his son after an unnamed catastrophe has destroyed most of civilization. Both movies bring an already loyal cult following to their potential audience. The pending release of 2012 has been accompanied by a stealth marketing campaign that many have mistaken for reality (you can vote for the leader of the post-2012 world on the film’s site). Additionally, a dedicated group of 2012 authors, readers, survivalists and believers are already participating in heated debate
