Are there any disadvantages of using Hycrete admixtures?
Mixes incorporating Hycrete can be expected to have slightly lower compressive strengths compared to control mixes, generally in the 3% – 10% range, as a result of the “hydrophobizing” of the aggregate. This is compensated where needed by traditional means, such as the use of water reducers, increased cement, or lowering the W/C ratio (no more than 0.42 is recommended). Trial batches should be performed and appropriate adjustments made to the mix design prior to use.
