Are there any differences in conditions of employment among Contracting Organisations?

Yes, but only to a certain extent. The contract that a JET participant receives will be based on a model contract provided by CLAIR. Within the model contract, CLAIR sets certain standards of which the minimum requirements must be met. These include such items as length of contract (1 year), number of hours worked (35 / week), remuneration (3.6 million yen / year after income tax) and vacation days (minimum 10 / year). When drafting the contract itself, the Contracting Organisation must meet these standards. The individual Contracting Organisations draw up contracts with their JET participants based on the model contract, but they amend the model contract to incorporate specific local employment requirements. Please be sure to read your contract carefully. If you are uncertain about specific areas within it, please contact your Contracting Organisation. For further discussion on the matter, talk with your Prefectural Advisor or CLAIR.
