Are there any differences between the different region releases?
The Region 4 releases are so far identical to the Region 2 releases. The Region 1 releases have a few differences to the Region 2 releases, as the DVD Details article Covering The States explains. Basically: • They have different covers. The Region 1 designs include more pictures, and have unfortunately got rid of the sections of the Red Dwarf logo on the spine. • The collector’s booklet’s spelling has been Americanized. • The Series I DVD has the ‘Drunk’ featurette missing (which is basically, shots of the crew drinking edited to the tune of Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping), as the music couldn’t be cleared in time. • A set of four exclusive trading cards related to the appropriate series is included with each release. There’s also a Mr Flibble Interview with Paul Augustine and Laura Palmer of BBC America, which gives more details on the changes. “We like to play up the characters on our covers as I believe our North American audiences really identify with them.” Erm, yes.
