My mother is biracial, and her parents were both african american because she was adopted. They purposely chose her and my aunt( who is also biracial) because they were “light-skinned” They obviously raised her as black because that’s what they were, but taught her from young age that she could only date light-skinned or white boys because she and I quote “didn’t want any nappy headed brown babies.” As you can probably tell my grandparents were very racist against black people despite them being black themselves. My mother, despite meeting opposition from my grandparents, married my father who happened to be a very dark skinned black man. My mother, despite her upbringing considers herself to biracial, both black and white, despite the fact that she is very pale and could pass for white if it weren’t for her very Afrocentric nose.
