Hi Charlie – The first thing to do is calm down and think how you’re going to get to be an actor – stop crying and do something about it. Forget about auditions – they are for people who have already learned to act, have gone to drama schools, and have loads of experience. It’s the same with agents – you can’t just ‘get’ one. They come looking for you, and only if you have the experience, Equity membership (which you get once you finish drama school) and they’ve seen you performing a lead role in a live stage play. So for now, join drama clubs, learn to dance – ballet, tap, contemporary and jazz – and get singing lessons. Read plays, practise learning lines, and work really hard at your schoolwork. You’ll need good grades to get into college to do a Drama or Theatre Studies course, and also do English, Psychology, or something else you enjoy. Then you can apply for drama school.
