The February 1994 issue of Discover has a cover story by Robert Bakker on extinctions in the marine environment at the end of the Jurassic and Cretaceous. In it he discusses his theory that true long-necked plesioaurs died out at the end of the Jurassic and were replaced by the pliosaur-derived elasmosaurs.
