Are there any Amish or Mennonites using Yahoo answers?
They shouldn’t be, but it’s possible! I live in Amish country here in Ohio. We always laugh because you can hear buggies coming down the road, blaring rock music from boomboxes inside. When they approach a house, it goes down and they pass in silence. A minute later, the music is back. Kids are kids, no matter what religion they grow up in. They all love to rebel a little. Actually, there is an Amish practice called Rumspringa in which Amish teenagers are allowed to participate in the secular world. At the end of this free period, the kids have to decide to join the church and be baptized, or live outside of the community. A person can’t change their decision to become Amish without being excommunicated. This means that they will be completely cut off from contact with their families and friends and are presumed by the community to be going to hell. If they choose not become Amish, they are risking hellfire, but are not officially cut off from contact with their families.
