Altered? “Altered” simply means “amended,” you know. That’s happened quite a few times, and I can see reasons to do so again, although I’m opposed to some of the more recent proposals. Abandoned or destroyed? No, despite its faults, we still have one of the better governmental structures yet devised. I rather doubt that the result of any likely change to the Constitution would be a reduction in the intrusiveness or comprehensive reach of law or of the extent of the government. Most proposals to amend the Constitution seem to be based in outrage over the existing (sometimes unenforced) restrictions on the government. The power gangs exist anyway, and have since the very early days of the U.S., as throughout history. That’s precisely why we have these limits on government as well as why we have government in the first place. Although there are amendments to the Constitution I might consider supporting, by the way, I am definitely opposed to the holding of a Constitutional Convention beca
