Are there age limitations on learning to fly?
No. We have students as young as 12 who are having great fun! However, a student cannot fly the aircraft solo (without an instructor in the aircraft) until he or she is at least 16 years old, and cannot obtain his or her private pilot certificate until they turn 17. What this means is that you can start to fly with an instructor as soon as you can reach the pedals on the floor, then continue to fly while preparing for your 16th birthday when you’ll be able to solo (how s that for a 16th birthday present?). Flight time during the next year will be in preparation for the actual flight test, which can take place as soon as you turn 17. At the other end of the spectrum, there are folks in their 70’s flying regularly. There is no upper age limit. As long as you are healthy, can pass an Aviation Medical exam (see Q&A below), and remain proficient in the appropriate aviation skills, then you can be flying.
