Are there additional requirements for the BCLAD credential?
Yes. BCLAD candidates must demonstrate proficiency in a specific language and culture. BCLAD students should take the state-approved BCLAD Test Exam 6 for language proficiency prior to the beginning of classes. Cultural competence in the culture of emphasis is met through Exam 5 of the state-approved BCLAD Test. In addition to the courses taken by ELA candidates, BCLAD candidates will continue primary language literacy and content development through class presentations in the language of emphasis. They also will be assigned a bilingual classroom for their practicum experience.
