There is a risk that the AutoPulse device will be less effective than manual compressions for treatment of cardiac arrest. Based on animal and human studies already done, this is unlikely. There is also an unknown degree of risk that mechanical failure or operator error will lead to interruption or diminished effectiveness of compressions. Additional risks are skin abrasions that commonly occur from the compression belt. Injuries that arise infrequently with manual chest compressions may also occur such as rib fractures, lung injury, and injury to the abdominal organs.
