Sometimes. Children with special needs may experience life differently than their peers even in adulthood. Because of this, they may need to be understood and parented differently. Children may need extra help attaching and bonding to their adoptive families. They may require the care of professionals in the community such as: speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical specialists, and social workers. The adoptive family may need to be involved in special need resources at school and these resources may also be available to the child as they move into post-secondary education. It is important to remember that sometimes the most important thing a child with special needs requires is a loving, permanent family to help them reach their potential.
