Are their any disadvantages to Title IX?
This is a controversial issue. Men’s programs will continue to be affected because enrollment trends, particularly within the college setting, have shifted to being predominantly female. Title IX stipulates that opportunities for males and females must be directly proportional to the amount of females and males enrolled in the institution receiving federal monies. The problem is the athletic departments are already financially restricted, making the creation of new opportunities for women a near impossible task. The reality is, and if this trend continues, male Olympic sports programs may face elimination because their athletic depart is attempting to comply with Title IX. This means educational opportunities could be forever lost!
