Are the Yankees the most hated team in American sports?
I do think the Yankees (or as I call them the Jankees – go to the south Bronx you’ll know why) are the most hated team in sports. I can’t stand them – I’m a Mets fan who had to grow up with Jankee fans. Tell you what – I’ve never met a bunch of fair weather fans as Jankee fans. Back in the late 80’s early/mid 90’s, Yankee fans certainly didn’t show up for the games. Matter of fact most people who were kids in the early and mid 80’s in the NYC metro region are Met fans – because the Mets were the better team. People jump on the bandwagon. Yankee and Cowboy fans are the about at the same level. Lots of bandwagon fans who become fans when the team is playing well. For the record though – Boston fans are getting very close to being as annoying as Yankee fans. Red Sox fans have turned there “aw shucks, we have the curse” to really arrogant “Sox are great and every other team stinks” – to the point where Sox fans don’t even acknowledge good baseball – I HATE THAT.
