Are the Trinity Bay Garlands connected to the Conception Bay Garlands?
The Conception Bay Garlands (my immediate ancestors) are traced back with reasonable certainty to John (#32), planter fisherman in Mosquito Cove (Bristol’s Hope) in 1675. The Trinity Bay Garlands (the Lester-Garland crowd of some fame) are traced back to Joseph (#33) (who may have been John, not Joseph according to research by Gordon Hancock) of East Lulworth (1640-1732). Joseph/John (#33) had sons Joseph (#35) and John (#1216). Are the two branches connected? The first possibility is that the Conception Bay Garlands (John #32-> George #31-> John Davis #29-> Henry #27-> George #12…) have no connection to the Trinity Bay Garlands / Lesters (Joseph/John #33-> Joseph #35-> George #151-> John Bingley #162…). But, according to my Aunt, Mable Garland (#56), tradition has it that the Garlands in Nfld originated from 3 sons. So, a second possibility is that John (#32) of Mosquito Cove in 1675 is, in fact, the same person as Joseph/John (#33) 1640-1732 of East Lulworth who spent part of his
