Are the tapestries hand made?
A tapestry is actually a woven textile, not an embroidery, and is made on a jacquard loom. Today the looms are mechanised, unlike the old, very slow hand operated looms. Unfortunately there is sometimes a confusion people say they do tapestries when in fact they are doing needlework, or needlepoint. The use of the word tapestry , describing needlework, probably arose because at one time, the stitch today called tent stitch was also called tapestry stitch .
