Are the Tampa Bay Devil Rays no longer Devil?

0

In November 2007 the ownership changed the name from “Devil Rays” to the “Rays”. The owner described the change as “A beacon that radiates throughout Tampa Bay and across the entire state of Florida.” as in Florida is the sunshine state. IMO it was probably done in the name of political correctness. Here is the press release the team released for the name change that explains everything in detail. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20071107&content_id=2295315&vkey=pr_tb&fext=.jsp&c_id=tb Kind of funny if you look at all of the products available on Amazon…their merchandising has not really caught up to the name change as 95% of the products are still Devil Rays with their old logo.
