Yes, the Environmental Protection Agency does set standards for contamination, but they do not cover all of the contaminants out there. In fact, the EPA has only set maximum contamination levels for 90 common contaminants, and their standards are set based on an average adult’s consumption, not a child’s. With the standard being set for an adult weighing in at 175 pounds, the toxic levels of those same contaminants for children are unknown, and not even taken into account.
