One critical diffference between the two releases is the requirement for TCP/IP communications, even if there are no network clients installed. VSI-FAX Gold is a true client/server application and uses TCP/IP sockets to perform communications among the server and the clients. VSI-FAX Gold also has additional faxmodem support and is not limited exclusively to Multitech faxmodems. VSI-FAX Gold operates on a slightly different set of Unix platforms and Operating System versions than Release 2.1.
