Are the size and location of tumors important?
Yes. At the time of diagnosis, CT (computerized tomographic) or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans are used to determine the location and size of the tumor(s). Both location and size are important for planning how to best treat a tumor. Some tumors are best treated with traditional surgery. Some tumors are close to critical pathways transmitting information in and between the brain and spinal cord. Imaging studies allow neurosurgeons to see’ a tumor inside the brain, and thereby to plan the best possible treatment.
