Are the run-flat tires on Mini Coopers really that special?
Obviously, they didn’t do much for you since you flattened them both! Seriously, though, the promises of the run-flats and self-sealing tires are far beyond what they will actually do for you. My car came with self-sealing tires…the punctures that they would defend against had to occur in the correct spots on the tread and be below a certain size for it to work. Otherwise, it’s just a tire filled with goo that costs too much to replace. Over at www.lxforums.com, there are countless stories of fellow owners whose self-sealing tires did nothing for them when they got punctured. If you do hold that run-flats will work as promised, you still need to ask yourself – does where you’re going to be driving warrant a run-flat? In the commercials, they always show someone driving out in the middle of nowhere.
