Vickie, thanks for this very timely question. WHAT IS MICRO PAV The term micro pave refers to the current style of jewelry where multitudes of small stones are set into the jewelry. Pav in a literal sense means paved, paved with stones as an old street might be paved with cobbles. The surface contains many closely spaced stones. What is different in the definition used today is the word micro and in the setting styles. In years past, pav described both the idea of multiples of stone spaced very closely to cover the metal surface and to the setting method. Stones were generally set using what is called bead setting. Each stone was placed in a carefully drilled and taper hole in the metal; the stone placed there and then metal pushed over the edges of the stone. A tool was used to make a bead like prong on the stone and excess metal was cut away. The look is very clean and neat, creating an illusion to the eye of a sea of gemstones.
