Are the purple round wild berries poisonous?
There are many round purple berries that grow wild. Among them are various grapes (Muscadine and Fox Grape both grow wild in your area, non-poisonous) Poke Weed (looks like a tobacco plant with medium sized berries) Beauty Berry ( has berries in a ring around the stem) and others that are so blue they seem purple. The best advice I can offer, since there is no photo to use for an accurate identification, is to take a sample of the vine with leaves and berries attached to your local County Extension Office and seek help from them. They can probably give an accurate I.D. of the vine and provide information on the toxicity of the berries. I hope your son is alright. If he isn’t displaying any symptoms by now he should be fine. It is always wise to learn of the various plants and animals in the area when you move to a new location that is different from what you are used to seeing. Good luck and enjoy!
