Are the people of Juruti against Alcoa’s project?
No. A survey carried out in 2008 by the Brazilian Public Opinion and Statistical Institute (IBOPE) indicates that 89% of the population is in favor or accept Alcoa’s project in the municipality. The manifestations of sectors of the community are isolated occurrences and restricted to the Juruti Velho region. Alcoa respects these communities, is in dialogue with them and has been developing compensatory activities in this direction, as expressed in the Positive Agenda, which comprises voluntary initiatives that go beyond the legal requirements.
