While I concur with the general scientific position that there was Not a “world wide” flood and that for the most part, many of the stories in the “Old Testament” of the Bible are in the form of allegories meant to teach moralistic concepts that have been passed down from generation to generation before being written into the Bible, I do think the story of the great flood “may” have some basis in fact. There is a theory currently being debated that the area we now call the Black Sea was once dry land and that a catastrophic influx of water caused the Mediterranean Sea to break through and flood that area 12,000 years ago and that This cataclysm is the basis for the story of the “Great Flood”.
