Are the NES and Game Boy/GBC compatible?

0

No. The GB/GBC uses a Zilog Z-80 variant processor, not a 6502. Plus, the screen size and palette details are different. There is a program which does convert small NES ROMs to work on the Game Boy, but the output of such a program is slow and buggy at best. Those games [such as SMB DX and Ghosts & Goblins] which are official conversions of NES games on the GBC have been reprogrammed by the game companies to work with Z-80 machine code. • Is there any difference between the old “toaster” NES and the new top-loading one? Yes, significantly the top-loading one only outputs an RF signal, unless you modify it. The top-loader is much better at loading carts than the old front-loading mechanism because the connector almost always makes proper contact with the games. The top-loading NES is not easily compatible with the Game Genie because of the extra-thick Genie PCB. Galoob once offered an extension adaptor to fix this problem. As far as I know, the new NES has no lockout chip to speak of. F
