Are the mayan and aztec calender the same ?
No. They are not the same. The Aztec calendar partly builds on the Mayan calendar but you can’t say that they are the same thing, and they both build on earlier Mesoamerican calendar systems. These calendars differed from the Maya version mainly in that they didn’t use the long count to fix dates into a larger chronological frame than the 52-year cycle. Ho Humm … EDIT! The Mayans didn’t “start everything from scratch” as suggested in the next answer. They actually took bits and pieces from earlier cultures such as the Zapotec and the Olmec.
