Are the majority of people in England of Anglo-Saxon descent?

No,not at all. the east has more saxon and danish viking dna than elsewhere in england but in almost every place tested the older haplogroups are in the majority, showing that there was no ‘anglo saxon’ wipeout, although they certainly took over, took the best for themselves, and marginalised the natives. I had surmised this 20 years ago actually-because there are few evidences (such as mass graves) for wholesale slaughter and because the average English headshape is long and ‘mediteranean’ (and always has been) unlike the rounder skulls from germanic and central regions. The dna from Ireland,Wales etc is much less mixed,it’s true, but the similarities are still greater than the differences. (Interestingly the ‘celtic’ regions aren’t really ‘celtic’–there was no huge Iron age invasion of celts from central europe. The lines of descent actually go back to the Neolithic and post-Ice age…and mainly came from Iberia.
