Are the “lost arts” of homemaking, cooking, sewing, etc still relevant for today?
Laurie: It is an art to turn a house into a home and it is also the first place of service to our Lord. As Elizabeth Elliot says, “You are never more like Jesus than when you serve.” There is a need to slow down in our society and a good place to start is by cooking at home! Eating so much fast food facilitates many of today’s health problems- cooking from scratch can help. God has given each woman a nurturing and creative instincts that can be fulfilled at home as we use our God-given talents to serve our families. Cooking at home is wise stewardship. Learning homemaking skills begins to develop focusing and attentiveness. Sewing skills help train the girls with learning sequencial order which has reason and purpose. Jean Marie: The curriculum helps to teach our daughters to be quiet and attentive on something. Teaching the skills is a great way to slow down the fast pace of our lives.
