Are the kittens adopted out straight from the foster home or do they go back to the shelter at a certain age / size, or attend adoptathons?
Returning to the shelter or being part of adoptathons will put them at a higher infection risk, and it would be highly advisable that they are revaccinated at 1-2 weeks prior to this. Also, reviewing what available literature I could, I am uncertain what guidelines are recommended for vaccinating kittens within in the 16-24 week age range. The rule of thumb for vaccinating kittens is that the vaccine needs to be repeated as long as the animal is at risk or until the age of 16 weeks, whichever comes first. So kittens that are 16-24 weeks old will be similar to adult cats, and will probably respond to the first vaccine they get. It is still a good idea to repeat it once, potentially after adoption; to be sure they have good protection. This is especially true for kittens that may have had their health compromised in any way at the time of the first vaccine, or kittens/cats that return to the shelter for some period after being fostered.
