Are the help lines in VAT and Tax free to use?
Up to a point. For straightforward queries that can be answered within the hour the help lines are free. If, however, the query is more complex and will take more than an hour to resolve then the advisors will ring you back with a quote for the work. Generally in these situations it is in your client’s interest to pay for the specialist advice as it often generates tax savings. The Tax Advice Line is to a special tax company and the VAT advice line is to ex HM Customs and Excise Commissioners.
