Are the Heart Institute’s surgeons skilled in mitral valve repair?
All of the Heart Institute’s surgeons are warm proponents of mitral valve repair, rather than mitral valve replacement, when feasible. This translates to a repair frequency much higher than the national average, a statistic we are very proud of. Valve repair is not for everyone, though, and should only be attempted when it can be done safely and with good short- and long-term result.
