Healthy Eating Guidelines were mandated in all Government schools and preschools in 2007. Catholic Education schools and preschools and independent schools have been encouraged to implement the guidelines. DECS Admin Instructions and Guidelines – School Sector Section 89a ‘Schools and preschools have an obligation to provide a learning environment that is safe and supportive of student learning, health and wellbeing. In relation to healthy eating practices, schools and preschools should operate in line with the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia (2003) and The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (1998).’ The Healthy Eating Guidelines are encouraged to form part of the school/preschool Site Learning Plan.
