Are the field renovations working as planned? Are more kids playing sports on local athletic fields?

Yes. City Fields’ goal is to help more kids play more sports mores often on local athletic fields. By improving the condition and availability of San Francisco’s athletic fields, the Playfields Initiative increases the play capacity at each site and expands the number of athletes — kids and adults — who can use the fields. To date, the City Fields Foundation and Recreation and Park have renovated playing fields at four parks: Garfield Square Park, Silver Terrace Playground, South Sunset Playground and Crocker Amazon Playground. In addition, lights were added to the Franklin Square Playground. These improvements have added approximately 27,334 hours of annual ground sports play capacity to the City’s athletic fields. Due to some seasonal overlap, this number doesn’t even include the increase in baseball and softball play capacity.
