Are the elk harmed in any way during the removal process?

0

Each year elk “grow” a new set of antler. The antlers are shed in the winter months each year as a new set begins to grow. To produce Elk Velvet Antler, the antler is removed from the animal in the velvet stage, after approximately 6-8 weeks of growth. The elk are restrained during this veterinarian monitored process to prevent bodily injury and to ensure a reduced pain environment.
