I love college football mascots. They bring history and tradition to programs. They can bring a lot of excitement to games as well. Many times a program reflects the character of their mascots. Some are reference ancient history like Trojans and Spartans. Others geography like the Mountaineers or Green Wave. Others represent Native Americans, though the NCAA has largely tried to end the practice. We still have the Utes and the Seminoles, which is a good thing. Now, animals are very popular these days, as they do not get as offended as political activists for certain groups. Some animals are better than others, of course. For some very odd reason, many programs reference birds. I guess that is a lot nicer than some fierce and violent animal, I just don’t get that. I do understand having your mascot be a dog.
