Are the data cards for the StreetPilot III compatible with other Garmin units?
A. The physical StreetPilot III data cards themselves are compatible with some other Garmin units. In particular, the StreetPilot III data cards may also be used with the StreetPilot or StreetPilot ColorMap, the GPSMAP 176, 182, 188, 232, 238, 2006, 2010, 196, 295, and the eMap models. While the physical data cards themselves may be transferred from the STP III to one of these other units, a unit specific unlock code will be required to view any unlock based MapSource product on a unit other than the STP III or the unit for which it was originally unlocked. Each of these models is compatible with Garmin’s MapSource line of CD-ROM data. StreetPilot III data cards are not compatible with many of Garmin’s older GPS/Chartplotter units (e.g. GPSMAP 225) which use our G-Chart line of cartridges. These cartridges are larger in size and use an entirely different data format.
