Are the Custom Shop models up to par with the vintage guitars?
WH: The new Gibsons are better than theyve been in a long time. The ones I play, the Custom Shop guitars, are really great guitars. Im very happy with them. Sometimes Ill go through several before I find the right one because they all sound different, and everybody looks for something different in a guitar. I like very meaty, dark, and warm sounding guitars. Some people like very bright guitars but that has never been my thing. Youve been ranked in a few different positions in the many lists of greatest guitarists over the past few years. You were recently ranked 23rd in ‘Rolling Stone’s list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Do you think the voters overlook many of historys blues and jazz greats? WH: Yeah. I mean, its almost as if they should label them lists of rock ‘n’ roll guitar players. Most of the great jazz players are better than all of us.
