Are the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region at risk of spread of HIV infection?
Although the estimated number of people living with HIV/AIDS is relatively low in the Region, there are risk factors for the spread of infection. For example, it is estimated that millions of drug injectors live in our countries. In addition, millions of new cases of sexually transmitted diseases occur every year, reflecting a great number of risky sexual contacts.
