Are the Body Side Moldings Functional?

I just got my side moldings today. It seems there are flat surfaces at the ends of all moldings that have room for a little more tape — say 1/2″ to 1″ square. I think I might try adding some extra bits of tape in that area — after measuring the thickness of the factory tape and mine to make sure mine’s not thicker. I’m thinking that should help tack down the ends a little better.
