Are the Bay’s environment and resources protected?
The State Water Resources Control Board, created by the legislature in 1967, and whose mission is to ensure the highest reasonable quality for waters of the State, found and declared that the protection of the quality of the ocean waters for use and enjoyment by the people of the State, requires control of the discharge of waste to ocean waters in accordance with the California Ocean Plan. This plan protects the beneficial uses of ocean waters such as water-contact and non-contact recreation including aesthetic enjoyment, commercial and sport fishing, rare and endangered species, marine habitat, fish spawning and shellfish harvesting. The City can offer people ways to produce less waste, and use environmentally – friendly alternatives to accomplish things in their daily life. This always results in a favorable outcome.
