Are Tasers Non Lethal Or Deadly Weapons?
There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the use of Tasers. There are articles in the news about police officers abusing their use and deaths of individuals after being shocked by such a device. But if used correctly, they are non-lethal. Usually when someone has died after being tasered, they have been under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or have a significant predisposed health problem. The other possible cause of death could be connected with being tasered several times in a short period of time. The difference between the Taser and the stun gun is that the Taser shoots out 2 small barbed probes that are connected to the hand held weapon by insulated conductive wires. These barbs will go through up to 2 inches of clothing to attach themselves to the skin of the target, sending 50,000 volts of electricity through the body,which overrides the central nervous system, totally incapacitating that person.
