Are Sweet Simplicity® and Erythritol (the sweetening ingredient in Sweet Simplicity®) safe?

0

Yes, Sweet Simplicity® is safe. The ingredients in Sweet Simplicity® – erythritol, fructose and natural flavors – are all “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) by the FDA. The large body of published safety data supports the conclusion that the intake of erythritol would not be expected to cause adverse effects in humans under the conditions of its intended use in food. Over the past 10 years, erythritol has built up a history of safe use by expanding its approval around the world. It is currently authorized for use in foods in 12 jurisdictions. Petitions have been submitted to additional government agencies throughout the world to expand the use of erythritol. In the United States a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) affirmation petition was accepted for filing by the FDA on January 15, 1997. The U.S. GRAS affirmation states erythritol is intended for use as a flavor enhancer, formulation aid, humectant, nutritive sweetener, stabilizer and thickener, sequestrant and texturizer.
