Are swamp coolers dangerous around electronics (Computers specifically)?
No problem! Have been running my swamp cooler for 20 years and never one electronic component problem….and I have a lot of electronics around the house. Only one per room…evaporative coolers have a theoretical limit at 100% efficiency and perfect outside air conditions (low humidity, right wet bulb temperature, etc.) of a 38 degrees Fahrenheit reduction in temperature. Since your unit probably will be around 80% efficient and your outside air will not be exactly at the right conditions…you might be around 20 degrees drop. What is more important is that the one cooler has clean pads and is connected right into the house (so the air doesn’t warm up in pipes on the way into your house). Also that you have enough air flow for the size of your house (measured in cubic feet per minute CFM), so get the larger one to be sure. Also that you crack open windows all around your house so all areas of your home are cooled.
