The AREDS trial only investigated the role of Antioxidants and Zinc on those with MD. We do not know the long-term affects of such therapy on ‘healthy’ people. Therefore it is not recommended unless you have the disease. However we consider Lutein to be protective and should you not be eating vegetables and fruit, you may consider taking a Lutein supplement.
