Are sugar gliders illegal in the state of CA?
Yes they are. The thing with Sugar Gliders, like hedgehogs and ferrets, is that you can go out of state, such as Nevada, to purchase them and keep them as pets here. Animal stores sell supplies too for them, so obviously many people have them, especially ferrets. You can even sell them in the local classified ads, with no problem. There are far more concerns for other more important things than animals such as these, as long as you are keeping it safe, not setting it free and are taking care of it. Just make sure that before you go out of your way to get one, that you first make sure you can care for them. My brother and I were dying for ferrets and when we went on our trip to Reno, we called up a pet shop and bought 2 of them – we made the mistake of learning NOTHING about them and ended up having to give them away to a new home. Sugar Gliders are messy and can be quite the work.
