Are subsistence foods safe to eat?
A. Overall, wild fish and wildlife are high quality, nutritious, and healthful foods. For advice about the consumption of fish, see “Fish Facts and Consumption Guidelines†at the State of Alaska, Department of Environmental Conservation, Epidemiology Section. Every year, the State’s Division of Environmental Health issues bulletins warning about the dangers of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) from consuming clams and other shellfish from uncertified beaches.
